Developing strong links and partnerships between the church and the community

We have completed a grave mapping project to enhance our knowledge and history records of family graves, World War memorials and notable figures from the local community.  This is available on request and can be looked up online by ourselves in a matter of minutes.

We are involved in local issues, such as being part of the Thornham Neighbourhood Forum, linking with the uniformed organisation, Smalley Hall and Thornham Cricket Club.

Encourage friends and visitors to learn more about the heritage of the church and community.

Open our building for Coffee mornings, encouraging the local community to use the building.

Development of the grounds for the enjoyment of the wider community.

We are in the process of developing a 1/2-acre eco wildflower area, with access for the disabled; creating a habitat with bird, owl, bat boxes for wildlife, with the involvement of children, to support their education and the well-being of all. The development of the church grounds will afford an area of natural beauty, providing a place for peace, quiet to pray and reflect.

Moving forward St Johns aims to:

Expand the range of visitors to our heritage building and continue to welcome all age groups from the local area to our accessible church building with purpose-built toilets for the disabled, baby-changing facilities, kitchen and meeting room.  These additional facilities ensure accessibility for anyone coming to the heritage building or using the grounds.  We have all the facilities needed for anyone to participate in activities, whether during church services or as part of a local community visiting the church and grounds.

Moving forward St Johns aims to:

Make our grounds safe for Forest School (St John’s Primary School) offering full use of 1/2-acre eco wildflower area and habitat of bird, owl, bat boxes for wildlife with local children’s involvement, to support education and wellbeing. This is something we have been working on over recent years.

Build on our various local partnerships to strengthen spirituality and well-being of all.

Open our church facilities, (kitchen, meeting room and facilities for the disabled) to enable the school and other school and community groups, to use the church for large gatherings, e.g., Films Concerts and Conferences.
